Overwatch reveals new hero named Orisa

Blizzard has announced that Overwatch will add its 24th playable character in the next patch. The new character is named Orisa and is now playable on the Public Test Region on the PC version.

You can read the introduction of the charcter below as well check out the latest videos from Blizzard.

Biography

  • Real Name: Orisa
  • Age: 1 month
  • Occupation: Guardian Robot
  • Base of Operations: Numbani
  • Affiliation: None

Built from parts of one of Numbani’s short-lived OR15 defense robots, Orisa is the city’s newest protector, though she still has much to learn.

Originally put into service before the Omnic Crisis, the OR14 “Idina” line of security robots was built in Nigeria’s massive manufacturing omnium. After the war, they were taken out of production, along with many of the other models used during the crisis. Twenty years later, Numbani revived and recommissioned the OR14 program to protect the city from external threats. These new OR15s were deployed for a short time before they were destroyed in an attack by Doomfist.

Following the attack, the program was scrapped, and the civic government sold off the remaining OR15 inventory. Some parts were purchased by eleven-year-old Efi Oladele, a brilliant girl whose early accomplishments in robotics and artificial intelligence had already earned her the Adawe Foundation’s “genius grant.”

With the approval of her understanding and open-minded parents, Efi spent the bulk of her grant money to acquire one of the decommissioned OR15 bots. She believed that Numbani needed a protector and that an upgraded OR15 could do just that. Efi repaired and reconfigured the robot and installed a personality core that she had designed herself.

She named Numbani’s newest hero Orisa.

Orisa has shown that she can be of service to the city, but she is still working toward finding her optimal protocols. The omnic’s inexperience can cause her to be an occasional liability. Fortunately, between Efi’s willingness to make the necessary modifications and Orisa’s adaptive artificial intelligence, both robot and creator have always been able to set things right.

As Orisa starts her career as a guardian, she has much to learn about the world and her functionality. But as long as she is guided by Efi’s boundless optimism and her own growing sense of honor and duty, Orisa stands ready to protect Numbani and her creator at any cost.

Overview

  • Role: Tank
  • Difficulty: Two Stars

Orisa serves as the central anchor of her team, and defends her teammates from the frontline with a protective barrier. She can attack from long range, fortify her own defenses, launch graviton charges to slow and move enemies, and deploy a Supercharger to boost the damage output of multiple allies at once.

Abilities

  • Fusion Driver – Orisa’s automatic projectile cannon delivers sustained damage, but slows her movement while she fires it.
  • Fortify – Orisa temporarily reduces damage she takes, and cannot be affected by action-impairing effects.
  • Halt! – Orisa launches a graviton charge which she can detonate, slowing nearby enemies and pulling them towards the explosion.
  • Protective Barrier – Orisa throws out a stationary barrier that can protect her and her allies from enemy fire.
  • Supercharger – Orisa deploys a device to increase damage inflicted by allies within her line of sight.

Review: Double Dragon IV (PS4, Steam)

Double Dragon IV (PS4,Steam)
$6.99

Double Dragon‘s main franchise originally had only three titles and were beloved by many gamers of the beat’em up genre. The first three games were released on the NES and in the Arcades back in the late 80’s and early 90’s and later had a spin-off entry in 2012, titled Double Dragon Neon, which reminisced on the franchise with its 80’s theme. Now, in 2017, we finally get a new entry to the series for Playstation 4 and PC, published by Arc System Works, who aren’t the original publisher, but bought the rights to the franchise last year.

Visuals

Double Dragon IV could not look any better, mainly because key team members involved in the 1987 arcade version have teamed up to recreate the next chapter in the Double Dragon saga. This helped the title to not bring in any new visuals and stays true to series we grew to love. Bringing back the original sprites from Double Dragon II for enemies , as well as bringing a few new enemies with the same 8bit style, players will feel right at home. Especially with the menus old-school layout and players energy hub layout. This will have veteran gamers back into the series, but also can be a turn off for newcomers.

Sure, the same old enemies are back with some new friends, but you will only see twelve of them throughout the game. Yes twelve, re-skinned/colored variants of the same enemies, along with 5 different bosses. For new players, this can get visually repetitive and boring fighting the same guy with his friend that looks exactly like him but green. I would have loved to see more new enemies since it is a new title to the original series.

Double Dragon IV‘s visuals may not be for everyone and it would of been great to just add a little more enemies, but players who love the retro style looks and  grew up on Double Dragon will love this blast from the past visuals.

Audio

Arc System Works has done well for Double Dragon IV’s soundtrack. The music will have players ready to jump in and kick ass, whether if its alone or with a friend. The soundtrack has brought the past and present together. They have also done players a favor, by giving players a choice of a normal new soundtrack for a new feel to the game or a retro soundtrack for players who want to head back to the early day’s of gaming. This is great because players will enjoy the choices, but the soundtrack isn’t perfect, there are a few problems.

The modern soundtrack is made up of a mix of retro sounds and new instruments, which sounds great. Same goes for the retro soundtrack but they fall flat after you make your way to the end. Players will hear instantly that some stages have tracks that were recycled from old titles and reused from this title and this takes from the new game experience. I would have loved to hear a brand new full official soundtrack to jam to.

The soundtrack from Double Dragon IV has some great new tunes, but it just doesn’t feel like the developers added enough tracks to enjoy and have play in your head, over and over again.dd4screenshot1

Gameplay

The core gameplay for Double Dragon IV will bring you back to the beginning of the series which isn’t bad at all, and will have you completing stages with friends by making your way past obstacles and teaming up against boss battles. Arc Sytem Works has also brought back the dual mode in which you can play against friends and even a tower mode. Both are great fun and have great replay value.

If you have ever played any of Double Dragon games, you will remember the frustration you will encounter while jumping past obstacles, dodging spike drops, and constantly getting knocked down by your foes, and this is all still here in the latest entry. The only difference is that its doesn’t seem as balanced. Player will find themselves surrounded by enemies constantly knocking them down and taking their lives as well as tightly timed obstacles that will have you wanting to break your controller.

The gameplay is fun but does has it flaws. For instance, levels do not feel like they have been filled like they should and the levels seem easy until you make it halfway through the game where the difficulty jumps up and doesn’t take mercy. This is when players will struggle and have to waste their credits, but then you also can reselect the previous level you have completed and continue on.

Verdict

Double Dragon IV is worth the pick up for the price, but don’t expect anything new, or ground breaking. It is the Double Dragon player grew to love, but not much for new players looking for something more.

I would rate this game on a scale 1-10 a 6 out of 10 for the effort to bring us back to that nostalgic age of the beat’em up series, but nothing else but that.

Kolin is Joining Street Fighter V, and here are the details

Capcom has announced a new fighter for Street Fighter V!
Kolin, who first debuted in Street Fighter III as a non-playable character, will be the next character to join Street Fighter V on February 28, and will launch alongside her story, and “Premium Battle” and “Nostalgia” costumes.

You can check out Kolin’s release trailer and more information about her below.

Kolin

After working in the shadows for Gill and the secret Illuminati organization, Kolin makes her Street Fighter V debut. First appearing in Street Fighter III, Kolin works behind the scenes in order to fulfill the Prophecy of Miraha and stop any who dare stand in Gill’s way. She is typically calm and collected, but can suddenly fly into a rage when anybody threatens Gill and his plans. Spoiler-alert, she resurrects Nash and uses him as a pawn too, showing she will do anything to achieve her goals.

Kolin excels in the Russian martial art of Systema, utilizing the opponent’s momentum against them and executing various slash-like attacks and knife hand strikes. Gill has bestowed upon her the power of ice, allowing her to augment her fight style with frigid blasts and deadly icicles. She is often heard speaking condescendingly towards her opponents, knowing they don’t stand a chance before her, let alone Gill.

Where did her hatred of Shadaloo come from and how did she originally become involved with Gill? Be sure to check out her character story to find out!

V-Skill: Inside Slash

Kolin’s unique counter allows her to deflect and automatically punish incoming moves with ease.

V-Trigger: Diamond Dust

With a full V-meter, Kolin can slam the ground twice with her foot, each time shooting out a path of sharp icicles across the floor. In addition to damage and stun, this move freezes the opponent’s stun gauge. While in this special state, the stun gauge will not deplete and if Kolin is successful in stunning the opponent, they will be frozen in place.

Critical Art: Frost Tower

Kolin dashes forward with a slice of her hand. If the attack connects, she’ll continue summoning large icicles from the ground, throwing the opponent into the air and shattering the ice to drop them to the ground.

Also coming alongside Kolin on February 28th are her Story, Premium Battle and Nostalgia costumes.

Future Characters

We also want to let you know too, expect to hear more from us about each of the remaining four characters every other month beginning in February. That said, in months where we won’t have any new character info, we will have new information and content to talk about. As previously mentioned, we have been analyzing player performance since the Season 2 balance changes. At this time, we can confirm additional changes are in the works to bring characters in-line with how we envision them to perform. We can’t share all of the details quite yet, but we are anticipating an announcement early March.
