Blizzard to release StarCraft Remastered this year

Blizzard has announced StarCraft Remasted, a HD revamp of the original StarCraft title, which was released back in 1998 for PC.

You can read an overview below, as well as check out the announcement trailer.

Rediscover a Classic

StarCraft Remastered upgrades the essential sci-fi strategy experience from beginning to end. Welcome back to the original game and its award-winning expansion, StarCraft: Brood War.

We’ve remastered our units, buildings, and environments, improved game audio, and broadened our supported resolutions. Illustrated interludes bring the struggles and victories of heroes like Artanis, Fenix, Tassadar, Raynor and Kerrigan to life like never before. Most importantly, the strategy gameplay that StarCraft perfected years ago remains unchanged.

Highlighted Features

  • Remastered Graphics
  • Revised Dialogue and Audio
  • Blizzard Friends and Matchmaking
  • Classic StarCraft Gameplay

Breakthrough Tech

In StarCraft Remastered, we’ve kept everything you love about StarCraft, but upgraded everything else.

  • Detailed Visuals – Zoom out for a Battlecruiser’s view of the battlefield, or zoom in to see the veins on a Mutalisk’s wings.
  • Stylized Briefings – Race-themed comic book interludes tell the original story with a fresh coat of paint.
  • Ampted Audio – The original soundtrack and dialogue, re-recorded and rejuvenated.

Real Time Strategy Restored

Command the mechanized Terrans, psi-powered Protoss, and insectoid Zerg as they vie for map control of eight unique environments. Build your base and conscript your army in a real-time, military sci-fi vision of the future.

Once you’ve finished the campaign, go head-to-head or team up with other players online. Pit StarCraft’s iconic, radically-different races against one another in the ultimate theater of war.

Return to the Koprulu Sector

The galactic story of intrigue and cosmic warfare that culminated in StarCraft II: Legacy of the Void began years ago, in the far reaches of the Milky Way. Three races—the Earth-expat Terrans, the psionic Protoss warriors, and the world-devouring Zerg—encounter each other for the first time, beginning a conflict that spans worlds (and more than 50 missions).

Overwatch reveals new hero named Orisa

Blizzard has announced that Overwatch will add its 24th playable character in the next patch. The new character is named Orisa and is now playable on the Public Test Region on the PC version.

You can read the introduction of the charcter below as well check out the latest videos from Blizzard.

Biography

  • Real Name: Orisa
  • Age: 1 month
  • Occupation: Guardian Robot
  • Base of Operations: Numbani
  • Affiliation: None

Built from parts of one of Numbani’s short-lived OR15 defense robots, Orisa is the city’s newest protector, though she still has much to learn.

Originally put into service before the Omnic Crisis, the OR14 “Idina” line of security robots was built in Nigeria’s massive manufacturing omnium. After the war, they were taken out of production, along with many of the other models used during the crisis. Twenty years later, Numbani revived and recommissioned the OR14 program to protect the city from external threats. These new OR15s were deployed for a short time before they were destroyed in an attack by Doomfist.

Following the attack, the program was scrapped, and the civic government sold off the remaining OR15 inventory. Some parts were purchased by eleven-year-old Efi Oladele, a brilliant girl whose early accomplishments in robotics and artificial intelligence had already earned her the Adawe Foundation’s “genius grant.”

With the approval of her understanding and open-minded parents, Efi spent the bulk of her grant money to acquire one of the decommissioned OR15 bots. She believed that Numbani needed a protector and that an upgraded OR15 could do just that. Efi repaired and reconfigured the robot and installed a personality core that she had designed herself.

She named Numbani’s newest hero Orisa.

Orisa has shown that she can be of service to the city, but she is still working toward finding her optimal protocols. The omnic’s inexperience can cause her to be an occasional liability. Fortunately, between Efi’s willingness to make the necessary modifications and Orisa’s adaptive artificial intelligence, both robot and creator have always been able to set things right.

As Orisa starts her career as a guardian, she has much to learn about the world and her functionality. But as long as she is guided by Efi’s boundless optimism and her own growing sense of honor and duty, Orisa stands ready to protect Numbani and her creator at any cost.

Overview

  • Role: Tank
  • Difficulty: Two Stars

Orisa serves as the central anchor of her team, and defends her teammates from the frontline with a protective barrier. She can attack from long range, fortify her own defenses, launch graviton charges to slow and move enemies, and deploy a Supercharger to boost the damage output of multiple allies at once.

Abilities

  • Fusion Driver – Orisa’s automatic projectile cannon delivers sustained damage, but slows her movement while she fires it.
  • Fortify – Orisa temporarily reduces damage she takes, and cannot be affected by action-impairing effects.
  • Halt! – Orisa launches a graviton charge which she can detonate, slowing nearby enemies and pulling them towards the explosion.
  • Protective Barrier – Orisa throws out a stationary barrier that can protect her and her allies from enemy fire.
  • Supercharger – Orisa deploys a device to increase damage inflicted by allies within her line of sight.
