Operation Babel: New Tokyo Legacy: Game Concept, Battle System, and Strengthening!

I’m sure you have heard a little bit about NIS America’s upcoming title Operation Babel: New Tokyo Legacy, but didn’t really understand much about the game play.  Lucky for us! NIS is revealing the Game Concept, Battle System, and Strengthening!

Game Concept

A normal student at Hinowa Academy, you are selected to join the Xth Squat for the special forces.  Rampaging Variants are attacking Tokyo, and of course, you have to stop them!

Battle Systems

Unity Skills
Unity Skills are special skills that can be unleashed when all team members cooperate. There are three types of Unity Skills: BRAVE, MAGIC, and ACADEMY. Time your Unity Skills correctly to maximize their impact!
XTND Skills/Spells
A brand-new feature added on Operation Babel, which further empowers skills and spells by allowing players to equip them with special items. Regardless of a team member’s Blood Code, the equipped item can use these abilities given by these special items.
The Rise & Drop System
Just like in Operation Abyss, the more battles you survive, the more dangerous the labyrinth becomes. With the Rise & Drop system, players have a good understanding that incoming danger also means potential rewards
Strengthening
Heal, cure, and level up.  Same with most RPG games.  Heal your team, and gain EXP which can earn you awesome things! In the game you can level up your Blood Codes and unlock new spells.
Create stronger items by combing all the junk material dropped in battle.  Items become “Codes” which you can use to create stronger weapons, or buff up your favorite weapon.

Danganronpa V3: Killing Harmony: Let’s meet the first round of Ultimates!

Coming out this fall, September 29, 2017, Danganronpa V3: Killing Harmony will be here before we know it.  Until then, let’s meet the first round of Ultimate Students who will be taking part in the next killing game! Upupupu!

Kaede Akamatsu: Ultimate Pianist

Known as the “Piano Freak”, Kaede has won numerous trophies from piano competitions earning her the title of Ultimate Pianist.  She is positive and puts all her effort into achieving her goals.  She also, “feels a deep resentment toward Monokuma for forcing everyone to participate in his absurd killing game.”

Rantaro Amami: Ultimate ???

There’s always a mystery ultimate, isn’t there? Will he have super detective skills? Will he be just plain ordinary? Although Rantaro doesn’t know what his Ultimate ability is, he is excited to find out what it actually is.  Glib and laidback, Rantaro is able to press Monokuma for information without being thrown into a panic.  “At times, his attitude suggests that he knows more about what’s happening than his classmates, which only heightens the air of mystery surrounding him.”

Miu Iruma: Ultimate Inventor

Responsible for “Eyedrop Contact Lenses”, Miu isn’t actually satisfied with her invention because she had to work for it.  “Miu believes that coasting through life is the best way to live it.” She is also arrogant and vulgar making dirty jokes and innuendos every time she opens her mouth yet she is submissive and docile if anyone talks back to her.

Kokichi Oma: Ultimate Supreme Leader

Kokichi’s Ultimate talent is being the supreme leader of an evil secret organization with a membership of over 9,000 (10,000, actually)! Of course, there’s no evidence such a group exists.  “As a self-professed liar, Kokichi revels in blurring the lines that separate fact from fiction. He has a tendency to say whatever pops into his head, and is prone to theatrical outburst of crocodile tears.” He also displays no remorse for tormenting his classmates.  Evil, dude.

How do you feel about the first four characters so far? Are you excited to get your hands on the game yet? Who is your favorite Ultimate student? Let us know in the comments!

The only content that can be found on the website as of now is a video which appears to show a sandbox building game similar to Minecraft.

No word has been announced on what this title may be but you can watch the teaser video below.

Review: Touhou Genso Wanderer (PS4)

NIS has brought us another game from over seas, this time its Touhou Genso Wanderer by AQUA STYLE. It is a rouge-like RPG game which if ,that means anything to you, you know you’re in for a hard game.

GW_ss02.pngStory:

Story wise this game is kinda simple. You play as Reimu Hakurei who is hanging out with her friend Rinnosuke. He gets possessed by an evil entity and beats up Reimu so now she’s out to investigate what truly happened and to stop Rinnosuke. So as not to spoil the story, suffice it to say that if you’re a Touhou fan you are sure to enjoy it there are references to their other games along with new things to experience.

GW_ss01.pngGame play:

As I mentioned this game is a rogue like RPG which means it’s very hard but fair, if you die you go back to level 1 with only personal experience and some items. I’ll be honest, I’ve never really been a huge fan of rouge likes because of how easily you can lose all your progress. I, personally, want to have my progress saved and see the ending. In this particular game its turn based; you move a space and the enemies move a space as well. You attack, then the enemy attacks. I have played games like this before but the style is not something I’m used to. I prefer turn based like Disgaea turn based.

As I mentioned the game is hard but fair. It is fair in that it gives you all the tools to succeed; if you lose then it’s pretty much your own fault and this is evident right from the get-go in the tutorial. Small spoiler for the tutorial, they give you an item to protect your other items from harm and shortly after acquiring this item you step on a mine that spoils your food (SERIOUSLY! COME ON!!!!) that was my own fault for not paying attention to the item I picked up. Later, I picked up a float potion. They go on to tell you that sometimes there’s hidden rooms that are only reachable by using certain items, and lo and behold I use it and get to a treasure room -Woo, free coins! Then another warning, “Hey if you touch this thingy it will lock you in this room” I pay attention and avoid the thing. Like I said, hard but fair, you have your fair warning and your tools, use em!

GW_ss03.pngGraphics:

So maybe I’m just being critical but, well, this is a PS4 game so why are the graphics so PS1/PS2 like? Not that it’s a bad thing, but it would be way cooler, in my opinion, if the fighting was a little more animated. Overall, the graphics are nothing to write home about. Some may be turned off the game because of them but honestly this is a fun enough game to look past this.

Overall, if you are a glutton for punishment I definitely recommend this one. It has its perks. I’ve been enjoying the game in smaller sessions; I can only take so much punishment, after all (damn you traps!). Give it a shot if you’re a fan of Touhou and/or Rouge-like games, this one is worth it!

You can find Touhou Genso Wanderer in stores March 21, 2017 for the PS4/PS Vita. Let us know if you try it out!GW_ss04
