NCG Recommends: Akame Ga Kill

I rarely get into anime that makes me sad more often than laugh; Akame ga Kill is an exception to that. It starts out so innocently and then…and then… you have to watch this -you will grow to love the characters.

The story basically follows Tatsumi and his friends who head off to the capital to try to make money for their poverty stricken village. As the story progresses Tatsumi joins the group Night Raid, a group working toward taking down the current puppet government.

The anime can get very bloody and very emotional in some parts, it had me feeling bad for both the good guys and the bad guys. You just gotta watch this if you need a break from the cheerful/happy animes out there.k02wcm3mhiky2lwagljd

Review: 4 Sided Fantasy (Steam)

2D Portal with no portal gun. If I were to say that could you imagine it? Well don’t that is too simplified of an explanation for this game. 4 Sided Fantasy (4SF) is a puzzle game where you can almost teleport between landscapes in order to get to your destination. At the start of the game every time you switch between landscapes you switch between the girl and the boy characters.

If you think of pac man when he goes in one side then comes out the other, then this is that kind of game, you teleport between landscapes in order to climb up or fall down or whatever to the next, it starts pretty simply then it gets harder. I had to stop playing for a while and come back later in order to continue, I also broke the game a couple of times which was kind of frustrating.

Overall though this game is pretty fun and interesting, it reminded me of Journey a bit in that I didn’t know where I was going or if there even was a story to it. If you like puzzle games definitely give this one a try.

Monsters & Monocles Review

Retro Dreamer released Monsters & Monocles last week as an early access game on Steam for $14.99

Since this is an early access game, let me give you some early news on it.

If the developers name didn’t give it away, M&M (not the candy or the rapper, cause that’s spelled different) is a retro styled game somewhat like a Contra, top-down style, but not as ugly and much more fun. You can play as 1 of 4 stylish Victorian Era dressed characters; Rupert Killingsworth, Lady Cannonhail, Baron Von Dogface and Nanobot (who isn’t a nanobot) They are a group of Paranormal Investigators out to find out what happened to an occult item collector.

Control wise, you can use the mouse and keyboard or a game pad. I think the game pad is much easier to use since the game tells you the controls for it. As you progress through the game, you can find different guns and can carry two at a time. These include, but are not limited to, hand cannon, spread shot, and grenade launchers. My favorite, so far, is the spread shot because it covers more area. One thing I didn’t like was that guns can overheat; its a retro style game and should have no such thing!

So far, I’m enjoying killing supernatural beings as a dog in a smoking coat. The fact that I can play this game with people around the world is even better, but in the end nothing beats playing in the same room with your pals like in the old days.

Finally, I would say give it a try. It might be a little too early since the game will still have updates, but it is already pretty fun with friends.  Check out this trailer if you are still not convinced!

Allison Road back in Production!?

While the original reasons for the cancellation of Allison Road were at best unclear (something about the complexity of development and publishing) we now have clear reasons for the return of development.

Chris Kesler the creator took a break and then decided to return to look at all the previous work done on the game. He says he did some updates and worked a little more on it and then it “came back to life” in his own words.

For now he is working without a full team. So it will likely be a slow process for now, but I for one am excited that it is back in development because it was showing potential since day one. Only time will tell if it truly will be finished and released.

Disgaea 2 PC announced

Almost a year after Disgaea PC was released, NIS is releasing Disgaea 2 PC has now been announced to be released on Jan 30th, 2017.

If you have not played the first game no worries, this game follows a different group of protagonists. Adell a demon hunter and Rozalin a demon princess are the main protagonist and they are joined by Adell’s siblings and Etna from the previous game. The story follows the group as they try to get rid of the evil lord Zenon in order to break the curse that has affected all humans.

NIS has said they will include the original game plus Dark Hero days, previously only available on the PSP. In addition 3 characters that were only available in the Japanese version will also be included.

I’m super excited for this game, it is one of my all time favorite series on the Playstation and now it will be available on PC!

Are you going to pick this up? I highly recommend it if you like turn based strategy RPG games.
