Review: The Magic Circle (Xbox One)

This will leave an impression

Originally released back in July of 2015, I had never heard of The Magic Circle, so as I began playing it I was unsure of what I was getting myself into. It looked like it was a black and white game and it began as your village was being attacked, things quickly took a turn for the weird for me. I went to an un-burned hut and got a pop up box stating the game wasn’t finished!

Without spoiling too much, I met the “creators” they took my weapon almost got me killed and then deleted me. Then it was over, back at the title screen a mysterious voice contacted me and told me we were going to finish the game. That’s when the game truly began.

The game is of the puzzle genre, editing your enemies and world to solve said puzzles. I enjoyed trying to figure these out because they were unconventional. For example, at the beginning of the  game I found a fireproof rock and took its fireproofing powers away, and later I found a volcano, so I gave my fireproofing to an ally and voila he couldn’t die in lava.

The graphics of the game are nothing all that great to look at, but that’s the style it was made to be, an unfinished game has no color, apparently. The only color we see are from auras created by your character and some enemies. There are other parts of the game that are retro styled and these also have color, they have a very 64 bit era look to them, I think they are neat.pua4a042cf4fd6bfb47701cbc8a1653ada-1461599353-5085844-screenshot-original
